That is very funny coming from a man who posts here. Thank you for making me laugh tonight. I thought this thread was very funny to begin with. Nachos is the only one who understood NikeGuy was just looking for compliments and now you with this. This is by far the most ridiculous thread I've seen lately, but I'm only here for the entertainment so I love when this happens.

Alright folks...let's calm down here. More personal insults will result in thread closure.

Nikeguy...I would expect that if you're going to post a video of your swing on the internet, you should expect some critiquing. It looks like a great swing to me, but obviously some must have seen something that looked off. It doesn't make them wrong or stupid. Let's all make an effort to show some class in our interactions with each other.

It's not always about you NikeGuy. That was directed at Alan, Larry & me.

I'm not saying you're bashing anyone. I'm just saying that you can expect the good and the bad whenever you post and it's not an insult when someone sees something slightly differently than you do.

Pardon me, but where did I insult anyone? I was insulted, but I declined to respond in kind.

Re: Nikeguy07 Driver videos!

I have looked at enough golf swings (including my own) with a teaching pro standing beside me-- to know when a golfer pushes his club up over the line off plane-- But obviously I was supposed only to say "WOW!" at his amateur golf swing. Then he indignantly told me he has NEVER faded or sliced (Tiger does it regularly and so did Jack Nicklaus) and declared that he generates 180 MPH clubhead speed. Amazing! I read that Tiger's "ALL OUT" clubhead driver speed is 160 MPH- and the charts say that is sufficient to hit a ball 350+ World champion long driver contestant stuff. WOW!! And that guy is right here in our modest little ****forum. We should be honored!

Larry

Larry I believe if you check back he said ball speed of 185+. There's no human I know of that can swing 180 mph, not even me.

Ok, whatever. Have a nice life.

I was just trying to be helpful in telling you in that clip (as you acknowledge) you got it too high and over the line.

I'm sorry, Larry, but the faults you claim exist simply don't. This is just reality.

Nachos - there are others who would agree with you. Perhaps the title should be "An Ode to Nikeguy" and he can make all the posts himself, which he seems to be doing anyway.

Hey if you don't blow your own horn who will ?

FWIW, I appreciate Larry's insights on getting the weight forward early, but "his one size fits all" theories on the entire swing... not so much.

I have come to understand (after several series of lessons and clinics) that late beginners (most amateurs) should learn the swing in stages, actually first accomplishing pre-requisites much like we learn math or music or even a foreign language.

Specifically, before a golfer should proceed past grip, setup, basic takaway, we must learn the dynamic footwork, i.e. to move our weight in the correct sequence like a baseball batter does. And in fact the way batters are taught should be the way golfers are taught. Jim Flick says he would start all students swinging at a waist-high target because the correct lower body moves are almost automatic.

Ideally, only when the golfer can do the footwork, move his body in the correct sequence, should he be allowed to work on much of anything else--especially arm action or other things that might (and usually does) distract him from the footwork.

Too many amateurs (I was one such) wasted too much time flailing away at the ball with a stationary lower body-- standing on our back leg and throwing our arms, exerting hand action to manipulate the clubhead to prevent slice or pull-hook.

I really wish someone had told me that the lower body moves, the footwork, is VASTLY more important than anything else--and that that is the foundation of the golf swing. I wish someone had explained that like in math, it would be a total waste of time and probably counter-productive for me to work on anything until I could move my body through the golf shot properly, make the transition weight shift.

Obviously we are free to do what we want to-- we are not enrolled students in an academy, etc. But there is certainly ample evidence of the failure of the US golf teaching industry, the magazines, the books, the videos, etc. to explain this strongly enough to get beginners' attention. It is sickening to learn that 99%+ of amateurs hit every ball "late," with weight on their back foot, clubhead decelerating and imparting slice spin. They have NO CHANCE to ever hit enough fairways and greens to score.

I dunno Larry...I just pretty much step up and hit the ball...overthinking things has been a big problem in my game, letting go of all of that has helped more than anything...amateur or not...
