Distance and spongy conditions...

What kind of distance do you get off your short irons in spongy wet conditions? As I said in another thread, it has been raining a lot here lately and there has been some course flooding…needless to say the lies are on the soft and spongy side…I have found that with longer irons and woods there is little difference in distance from dry conditions…however as the clubs get progressively shorter and the swing steeper, I have been experiencing proportionately less distance in comparison to what I am hitting my longer irons on a given day to the point that I don’t bother to full swing on anything less than a 9 iron as results vary wildly depending on the sponginess of the lie…there is no “pinching” of the ball going on at all, and playing forward and trying to sweep it up is a recipe for a thin hit disaster…

Anybody else experience this and how do you adjust?

I actually think it is the opposite for me somewhat. I think I get less backspin so the ball doeesn't get quite as high but still lands softer. I'd say just adjust clubs for what you feel the distance loss is and sweep just a touch more. Hard for me to evaluate our two styles because in the past I've been a sweeper anyway. This year I'm set on attacking the ball or die trying. I just hope the ball doesn't attack me back.

If every team could be as good as OU they would still not be equal.

Geaux Mizzou Tigers, beat Arkansas. That will show those want to be imposters

Re: Distance and spongy conditions...

If you're making solid "ball first" contact, you should be the same distance.
