Stack and Tilt

I know there are other 'stack and tilt' threads on here, but I kind of felt like starting a new one.

I had been struggling lately, losing distance and been experiencing an increasingly unreliable swing. Well, yesterday after work, I decided I was going to give the stack and tilt a try. It took almost a bucket of balls to get used to, but after I got into the rhythm of the new swing and my body got loose, I was not only hitting it more consistent, but my ball flight was completely different. Before, I would hit the ball really high with an arcing trajectory. But now, I am hitting the ball lower with a climbing trajectory with much more distance.

I have finally found a swing where I feel comfortable "pinching" the ball at impact. Of course, it isn't as effective with the driver, but it did help create some awesome muscle memory using a traditional driver swing.

What I really like about the swing is how "athletic" it is. I really feel as though I am putting something into my swing and getting just as much out of it. I do fear that if this becomes my regular swing, throughout the years I will suffer back problems. Which is why I am about to begin my "Yoga for Golf" routine.

Does anyone else have any good/bad comments about the 'stack and tilt?'

Re: Stack and Tilt

I am sticking with it,have been using it through the winter and i like the feel of it,i am more consistant with my irons, and hitting them pretty crisply, with a strong flight as well. I still find it a struggle with my driver, and to be honest have been using my 'old 'swing with that particular club. On the whole i am a convert.

Re: Stack and Tilt

I tried it last year still had much the same experience as you, J. Crisper, more consistent contact with my irons and a bit lower ball flight, with at least as much distance as before. I also had trouble with my driver, big pull hooks, and with some of my FWs. So I modified it slightly. Instead of as 90% of my weight on my forward foot it's more like 75% and I feel much more stable and use it throughout the bag including driver. I haven't played since October , but had a great range session the other day and hope to get out to play tomorrow. One nice thing I noticed is that even on fat hits I don't lose nearly as much distance with this method... I don't know why that is but it's a pretty cool side effect.

I also noticed this. I think it is because of how intense the downward blow to the ball is. I am just worried about hurting myself with this swing by either straining my back or by hurting my wrist. I have always been a "pick and scoop" ball striker, but this is really promoting that steep downward angle to the ball that I've been looking for.

Well I'm 53 and have always been more a digger than a picker, but the only ill effect I ever had was some initial muscle soreness on my left side from the waist down. But that was just due to having all the weight left, which I wasn't used to. It went away after a few rounds. No back problems. The only wrist problems I've ever had came from bowling, never golf, but again I've always been a digger.
