Though I've always been a good chipper, pitching has always been my nemesis. I wouldn't think it unusual for a problematic full-swing tendency one has to show up in the short game as well; my tendency is to engage my right arm in the downswing and have it basically take over. Well, after working on Stan Utley's pitching technique for a while, which really worked out (though I never felt fully comfortable with it), I came across a new "feel" this past week that is really working for me:
Keeping my grip in front of my chest throughout the swing on chips and pitches
It would make sense that this should keep your arms from taking over either of these shots and letting your body do the work. It also forces you to turn back and through; the thing that made me come across the idea was a tip I remembered reading from Tiger, who said to keep your chest turning.
Anyway, I got up and down 4 or 5 times for par my last round, including a couple of times that kept my 6-straight-pars-to-start-the-round streak going (not bad for a guy witha 15.1 handicap index, huh?). It's working quite nicely for me, so I thought I'd share it with my homies.
