Swinging like the pro's.

While practicing on the range I have often felt that I made a swing just like .... one of the pros! That is, the swing somehow felt exactly like the swing of a certain pro looks to me on TV. Obviously these were the better swings of the practice session!

A couple of years ago, I would often feel that I had Phil Mickelson's swing (except that I am right-handed, playing right-handed). With the long clubs I felt that I had the same over-swing, and with the shorter clubs I had the same finish.

After that, when I learned to maintain spine angle, I felt like I had a Vijay motion going.

After that, I went through a stage where had the exact same high finish as Luke Donald.

After yet another swing change, I ended up with Fred Couples followthrough.

I have felt Ryan Moore's swing, and Annika Sorenstam's swing also, and Tiger's 'swing-portrait' swing as well (not his full speed action!).

These feelings are extremely strong: The picture of a certain pro immediately flashes in front of me after some shots, and the resemblance between the feel of the swing and the visual from the TV coverage seems stunning.

Vice versa, I have never visualized a pro swing prior to a shot, and then managed to swing just like him/her. These swings / swing feelings never were the result of trying to imitate any of the pro swings.

Does anyone else have these, or similar feelings?

I do all of the time... with my irons and wedges i picture Tiger's swing, but with my driver, woods, and putter, i just think of "my" swing...

No, I am not! It is a one-way street! I feel the resemblance after a good swing, and not as often as I like! But I am not able to visualize a pro-swing beforehand, and then execute it! If that were the case, I might be good!

I'd like to be able to visualize a pro swings and then do it, but it always turns out to be just my swing.

Re: Swinging like the pro's.

You are a visual learner which learns best by seeing things. However I would suspect that what you feel and what is really happening is two different things. You can check it by getting your swing analyzed on video. Since there may be a billion synapse in a golf swing and any of them can create a feeling, that is what is happening to you. It is a good thing though but is hard to repeat since feelings change from day to day. It takes a full two years to make a swing change permanent if you practice correctly 60 reps at least 3 times a week.
