Driver swing video...
Here is the first in a two part series. I'd like to think that I edited this video so that I can get the most effective feedback possible. The second video is taken from a front view...sort of. Here are 12 shots taken in order. First I typed the result of the shot (I wrote them down after each one), then the swing at full speed, then as slow as I could make it. I apologize for the audio not synching up correctly, I believe they recommend an audio codec that I don't have. Well, here's the link. What I'm looking for are any inconsistencies in the bad shots, so I'd know what to fix. Thanks in advance.
I'll post the second one when I finish it. |

Re: Driver swing video...
A lot of lateral movement, easier to detect in a head on shot, the camera on the opposite side of the ball from you. Your back leg locks out at the top of the backswing, would like to see a slight bend stay in there, this will help quiet the lower body. When the body slides forward, it moves your impact point to a different point in your swing, this will cause inconsistencies in impact and club face angle. Good shoulder turn and decent balance throughout.

Re: Driver swing video...
Eric,
The main thing that I notice from the get-go is that when the club reaches parallel, it's almost touching your shoulders. Meaning, your club is kind of laid off and you let your wrists break, so the club goes past parallel. When the club gets to this position, it's very difficult to get it back to square at the ball, without making a very agressive hip turn, and having perfect timing. Have a look at these screenshots of you and Phil. ![]() ![]() If you work on keeping your hands higher, you'll be in a better position at the top, and I'd bet you'll make more consistent contact with the ball, hence, straighter shots. Here's a link to the full video of Phil's swing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc9QpjmkjO8

On most swings, I do not like what happens with your club at the top of your backswing. It looks like you sling the club into its final position and that it 'bounces back' from the tension in your wrists at the extreme position of the backswing. I would like to see you keep control of the club during the backswing and have the club sit comfortably quiet for a couple of milliseconds at the top. This problem was least noticable with the shot that keeps you coming back!. |

Re: Driver swing video...
I just want to say thanks guys. Knowing that I'd post the video here, I tried my best to take the same swing over and over, without compensating for anything on the previous swing. So what I got so far to work on is;
keeping a bend in my back leg, getting the club higher in my backswing, and controlling the club better (stop wrist breakdown). This isn't so bad, compared to last year's work when I finally broke off my affair with the slice(huge grip and swing plane change - I couldn't even make decent contact with the ball for a while). I got the day off of work and played 18 on Monday. I shot +20, my second best score ever, but I'm looking to improve and get under bogey consistently this year. Thanks guys! |

Re: Driver swing video...
It looks to me like you have way too much lower body movement and lunging which may be contributing to some balance issues.

Re: Driver swing video...
shorten up the backswing for more control. stop at parallel and "let the big dog eat"

Re: Driver swing video...
Erik, to me it looks like you're trying to hit the ball 2 1/2 miles instead of just creating an easily repeatable swing.

Re: Driver swing video...
I would think to improve consistency that you can back off of trying to kill the ball.
Maintain your spin angle throughout the swing. Make sure your club on the backswing is not going beyond parallel. I don't know your grip pressure but I think your are probably gripping it too hard - there appears to be a lot of tension throughout the swing. Your back leg locks out on the backswing. It would be helpful, in my opinion, if you had two angles for the video : down the line and facing you.

Re: Driver swing video...
You have a very flat swing which is why your hooking the ball. Your coming down way to far on the inside and your subconsiously compinsating for your mistake there.

Re: Driver swing video...
I wouldn't so much tell you to stop trying to hit the ball so hard, I hate it when people tell me that. What I'm seeing is the same thing I have a tendency to do. Your backswing comes back too flat and too far past parallel, you then cast a bit, coming over the top. These will probably end with either a big slice or pull. Question, if you're hooking the ball, is it starting out left and then ending right? Or is it starting right and ending further right?

Re: Driver swing video...

I don't mind getting the criticism here, I trust GRTers. What I don't like is getting advice from the stranger I got grouped with who can't hit the ball himself. For the first 5 years, I was a huge slicer, almost everytime, and never have hit a hook. Last year I forced myself to change my grip and swing plane. It was tough, but I got my ball going the other way and my contact has never been better - though I still got a lot more to improve. And I will put up another video taken the same day from a front view. The lower body movement is insane. As for my hooks, they start either straight or right, usually. When I try to hit a perfect draw, one that starts left and comes back to the middle, it ends up as a straight push. I can hit an intentional hook that I use to play this dogleg hole here, my fades are not as consistent though - they have a 50/50 chance of slicing or going straight. Unfortunately I didn't get to hit the range this weekend, and I need to help my father in law later today. I'll try to get the second video done tomorrow and post it up tomorrow night. I'd like to improve my swing, and I'm sure it will be a lot easier than what I went through last year. Thanks guys. ![]() |
