How do you grip the club?

How do you grip the club? I found, by experimentation, that if I used a strong grip, I decreased the chances of slicing.

Re: How do you grip the club?

Until recently I used a strong grip to help with slicing, but I decided to go to neutral and tackle the root cause of slicing. I'm much happier with the result.

Re: How do you grip the club?

Neutral, interlocking grip. I tried the overlap once and it felt funny. I also used to grip the club more strongly with the right hand, but I felt that the loss of a few yards by going to a more neutral grip would be more than offset by the increase in accuracy.

Re: How do you grip the club?

I grip the club neutrally, closer to the weak side, which might have a hand in my recent fading of the ball.

Strong left hand and a bit more neutral right hand with an overlap.

Re: How do you grip the club?

Interlocking with varying degrees of strong to weak in the right hand depending on the shot and club (the longer the club, the stronger the grip)...left hand stays almost the same in a slightly strong position...

Re: How do you grip the club?

Last season I inadvertantly stumbled on the best grip change I've ever experienced...

I dislocated my right ring finger during day one of a two day tournament...to grip the club hurt like ****...even with a brace.

So I ended up incorporating a double overlap grip to add a "buffer" between that finger and the grip...not only did it protect the finger, but I found the club swinging thru the zone faster, with much less effort.

It, along with a neutral grip is how I play now.

I have wondered about this......I have always used a 10-finger or baseball grip. Is there any faults to this?

Would I gain anything by switching to say a overlaping or interlocking grip?

Most pundits feel that the hands work better as a single unit when there is some connection beween them. Thus the overlap and interlocking grips. I've never tried the 10 finger (other than just a few swings on the range), so I can't attest to any benefits or faults, but I've used both the overlap and interlock, and for me the interlock just feels more comfortable. The little bit that I played with the 10 finger, it just felt awkward to me. I really struggled to get the clubhead through the hitting area on time. The snap just seems to work smoother for me when my hands are connected.

I don't think it is hurting me. I think that the "average" top-three list for teachers, pros, other experts is:

1 Overlap
2 Interlocking
3 10 finger

1 = most-preferred; 3 = least preferred.

2 and 3 are supposed to be suitable grips for golfers with small, or weak hands. If you have small hands, you are probably OK, provided that you place the hands close together. If not, you might be OK also! I wouldn't recommend that you change unless you feel you have a problem that a grip-change might address.
