Dirty little secrets...

Dirty little secrets…

So I had a pedicure yesterday…I’ve got a long list of whys including working a lot on my feet and playing golf when I’m not working puts some thick calluses on my feet, but the bottom line is that I enjoy the whole thing…soaking the feet in water with scented bath oil, having my feet scrubbed, getting my toenails cut and all the nooks cleaned out and trimmed, scraping of all the cheese off the feet with the razor followed by the pumice stone, getting another soak in the warm pretty smelling water, getting the feet and nails buffed out…I draw the line at the clear polish some guys get, but then they rub the feet and legs up to the knee with a 10-15 minute reflexology style massage with oil and I’m golden…I was thinking about it because I’m here at my desk wiggling my toes around in my shoes and they feel great; the girl got a piece of nail that was threatening to work it’s way into an ingrown situation; nipped it literally in the bud…after a pedicure my feet feel so alive that it is a pleasure to walk on them…man, I sound like a fruit, but I love getting my feet worked on…price around here is anywhere from three to five bucks, so I’m a frequent customer whenever I’ve got an hour and some cheese…

I haven’t tried any of the other salon services other than the full on reflexy where they massage your feet and legs for an hour which is great, but I’m a little interested in some of the other stuff they do…I’m not the only guy in the salons that I go to with my feet up on the rack, and we’ve come a long way from the days of “real men don’t eat quiche”, but it’s something that I keep to myself until now…thinking about a manicure and maybe a cream bath next time (cream bath is when they wash your hair for like a half hour and massage your scalp the whole time…I don’t have much hair, but I like the idea of someone suddsing my head and massaging my head and neck, and if they can make my hands feel like my feet then I might have to spend the day…) The funny thing is that it’s not like I’m into it for appearances…I’m a jeans and tshirt guy most of the time; wearing a uniform at work precludes the whole business casual aspect of my wardrobe and it’s rare when I wear anything that needs tucking in or buttoning…I usually look like I just mowed the lawn, but with great feet…

yeeeaah, tmi there BV, tmi lol

Closest I've gotten to a pedicure is purchasing gift certificates.

As far as pampering myself, I was going to a chiropractor for a while back in the 90s till my cousin, also a chiropractor, showed me some stretches that fixed everything right at home. Haven't done any self-pampering in a while now; something to ponder changing.

I have no clue why a pedicure would be a dirty little secret unless you have very ugly feet. I love pedicures - I always get pink polish.

I went to a hair salon in London near where I was working at the time, and the staff there always took five minutes or more to wash their hair, and then finished your cut with a five minute head massage. Wow...

Pedicures - hmm, not sure about that - but I do use an eye cream.

Re: Dirty little secrets...

Big! I'm proud of you for coming clean (no pun intended). It took me almost 6 months to talk my Dad into getting a pedicure when he got too old and stiff to do his own toenails but once he consented, he started going regularly.

I'm a total devotee of pedis and my operator can get rid of a blazing headache with a few massages of pressure points on my soles. Even if I don't need the pedi, I go immediately if a headache starts!

Must say, though, your prices are much better than what I pay!!!

That was mighty big of you Big. But I could have done without the "foot cheese". I can't really think of anything comparable. I'm very low maintenance. But I may be looking into a chiro or massage therapy if my back doesn't get better soon.

I haven't tried anything like that yet, but I just got some new dress socks for work that have a touch more padding in them and those alone make me feel like a different man. You don't realize how bad something is (or has gotten) until you try or get something new/better).

Re: Dirty little secrets...

When I was in Korea, I never had a problem with my hair getting even close to being out of Air Force standards! I got it cut downtown at least every 2 weeks, sometimes once a week. Thing is, a haircut in an off-base barber shop is more than just a trimming of the keratinized and pigmented filaments on your head!

It's starts with a standard haircut, then a straight razor to trim the edges and clean up around the ears. Sometimes even the hair on the ears is shaved! The you get a nice shampoo with scalp massage, and finish with a quick back-beating massage. That ran about $5. If you wanted a litle more pampering, for $5 they would then let you lay back in the seat, put a warm towel over your face, and wash and massage your feet. Then they'd walk on your back, massage your legs, arms, neck. That was usually where I stopped, but there were other, shall we say, more intimate services offered for just a few dollars more.

If I knew a legitimate place to get a massage for a reasonable rate (sorry, $50+/hour is a little high for me!) and where I knew the police weren't about to raid the place, I wouldn't mind the occasional self-indulgence.

GS, check your local yellow pages for a massage therapy school. We have several here in Western PA and they have regular hours for the students to practice on the general public for a very reasonable fee. Not quite the "aura" of a day spa with the tinkling water sounds and hushed atmosphere since usually instructors are at least observing periodically but they do their best to make it a relaxing experience.

Re: Dirty little secrets...

I'm in the first week of the P90x program. Probably not a dirty secret, but I have ulterior motives. I just don't want to look like a out of shape blob at my high school year reunion coming up this year.

The yoga session was laughable. To say the least, my flexibility is my weak point. I'm sure I would have made a great funniest home video clip. Sheesh, it made me sweat more than any of the other dvds and I could only really do about 20 minutes of the yoga dvd.

I'm with ya brother.....I'm ok with everything except that stupid...what's it called....downward dog move, (like a push up with your butt high in the air)...my shoulders are screaming after the second set.....but P90X IMO is the best hard core workout program you could ever buy, if you do the workouts to failure, you'll be in super shape in 90 days. I'll start again at the end of summer.

When I get a dirty little secret, I'll post it.

Closest thing I have to one is that I dig the music of Hank Williams (Sr.). Black people aren't supposed to like country music but I've got a bunch of Hank's albums. Please don't tell anybody.... Will

Re: Dirty little secrets...

I bought 2 pairs of slippers a long while back. One pair was Burt and the other was Ernie. I had to buy a pair of each so I could have Burt on one foot and Ernie on the other. I would do puppet shows with my feet to amuse myself...and my ex wife's kid...Jimmy. He was 8. Now he's 15 so we don't do that anymore. I got pretty good at it. So much so I started to see it as a talent. That's the weird part....I'm much better now.

I think the closest thing to that for me would be watching Real Housewives of New Jersey. I got semi-hooked during the first season of it because my wife would record it on the DVR and watch all the episodes at once.

Those is some crazy chicks.

Re: Dirty little secrets...

I can't stand any of the other Housewife shows but I have been known to watch some of the Real Housewives of Orange County

Re: Dirty little secrets...

T - I don't think listening to certain music is a dirty little secret, but rather a guilty pleasure.

P-Gurl - You can't leave it there. Come on - just one - tell me dirty little secret.
