Did this ever work for me !

When I got back into golf a couple of seasons ago I spent a good bit of time shopping for new clubs. I had spent an hour on the practice range with a friend who is a teaching pro. and he certainly agreed, it was time to avail myself of the latest technology in golf clubs.
Studying my swing he first of all recommeded type of shaft then we went from there and after trying a number of different brands I made my decision and it certainly was a good one. The putter to put in the bag was a whole other issue, after a round of golf with my buddy he commented that during our round I had missed six putts in the 3-4 feet range. The difference between a round in the 70s' and my score in the low 80s' my 25 year old "Ping" putter was arguing with my bi-focals. An hour on the practice putting green with an assortment of putters presented me with a well scrambled brain then he came out of the pro. shop with "The Pipe" putter by Nickent. After getting used to the feel of this putter ( lovely grip and nicely balanced ) we got down to business I sank nine out of twelve putts from 5 feet and in. I used it for a couple of rounds before I bought it, it sure works for me.

Re: Did this ever work for me !

There's no question that getting properly fitted for clubs can improve one's play, and today's "forgiving" clubs help maximize one's chances at success too.

I gave up trying to play with my bifocals entirely many years ago. I now play with a separate pair of glasses for distance only. It does make reading the scorecard difficult, but I can see close up reasonably well by taking them off.

My question is: What is different about "The Pipe" that allows you to see the line better with your bifocals?

I agree, as a bifocal wearer I had to resort to distance only glasses for the course. It wasn't just the putting that was affected by the bifocals, it was looking down at the ball at address for every shot.

Thats' a good question, and its' a two way answer, first of all I can't get away with wearing anything but my bi-focals, I'm stuck with it so I make the best of it. I had to change certain habits when it came to putting, I now have my eyes completely over the ball, I can now see the Pro-V on the ball. Most important of all, my pal pointed this out, my head was moving slightly as I took the putter away from the ball. No doubt about it, the white "pipe" on top of the putter ( which is the same width as a golf ball ) is ( for me anyway ) so easy to line up with the ball on the intended line. With my head perfectly still I watch the putter strike the back of the ball and keep the putter head going through to the target. The improvement I have had has been excellent, eliminated some poor habits and replaced them with some sound ones. By the way I did try the "three ball" putter but I found the "Pipe" much easier to line up.

I have one of these and agree that the design makes if visually very easy to line up. Unfortunately mine is a center shaft model that I just never get used to.
