March 24 Hypothetical
It's been pretty quiet here lately, so I think it's time for another discussion.
In stroke play, a Player B questions the proper procedure that Player A wishes to follow under a rule that Player A is allowed to drop. Player A announces that he will play the original ball under Player B's option of the rule, and a second ball under the option he feels is correct, and selects the second ball as the one he wishes to count if the comittee allows it. As it turns out, both players were wrong, neither ball was played from the correct place, but without a serious breach involved.
What is the ruling? Which ball counts, and what, if any additional penalty is incurred?
