A Bit of Confusion

I have no clue how this happened, but when I was playing the other day - it appears that one woman in my group hit another woman's ball although she denied it. They were both playing Callaway's, but had their initials on their balls. The problem is that when you tee off, it's a blind shot so neither of them knew exactly where they went. The woman who appears to have hit the wrong ball had no clue where her ball actually was so she dropped one next to the wrong ball she hit and went from there. The other woman went back to where the first woman hit her ball and dropped a ball and went from there. Neither took a penalty. I decided it was none of my business even though they entered their scores so I stayed out of it except to laugh. What should they have done?

The first player incurred a 2 stroke penalty for playing a wrong ball, then she played the second ball from a wrong place, and incurred an additional 2 stroke penalty, and probably a disqualification for committing a serious breach and not correcting her mistake. Under the rules, when she didn't find her original ball, it was lost and the only recourse was to return to the tee and play her 3rd stroke from there. By playing from where she did, she gained a significant advantage, and the committee (if there is one) would have been entirely justified in imposing a penalty of disqualification under Rule 20-7 for committing a serious breach.

The second player incurs no penalty for substituting a ball if the original ball is not immediately recoverable (i.e. it was hit far enough that it would unduly delay play to get it and return), but she should have placed the ball (Rule 18-4 Ball at Rest Moved by Fellow Competitor), instead of dropping it. For that breach, and for not correcting the error, (Decision 20-6/1) she also played from a wrong place incurred a penalty of 2 strokes for a breach of Rule 20-7. In her case it is not a serious breach so she would not be disqualified.

I'm kidding, of course, but about 20 years ago we had a fist fight in the parking lot at my course over sandbagging and a big win in our club championship. No one got hurt, but it was pretty entertaining.

Hey, as a HS principal (retired) I was absolutely stunned the first time I had to break up a girl fight. It was the first time I saw the epitomy of "eyes glassed over" blind rage, complete with hair pulling, scratching, gouging.

We didn't have many fights in my small school, but the girl fights were typically MUCH more brutal than guy fights. Guys tend to follow fight rules more.

I once had to expel an otherwise sweet girl that I really liked a lot because she went postal on another girl who had been talking trash. It was a brutal beating, and I couldn't let her stay in school.

This doesn't surprise me - girls/women can be nasty. My only experiences with nasty women are seeing verbal fights, not physical ones and they're bad enough. I know and play golf with a few women that I would never want to cross, especially Southern women.

Jwaldrop, did you see the recent issue of the girls putting the video of the girls-on-girl beating on Youtube.... good thing girls don't have muscles of boys (well, most don't), they are brutal.
