Ryder Cup Central Here we go again. This time at Valhalla, September 16-21, in the heart of Kentucky for Golf's bi-yearly version of The Hatfields vs. The McCoys. It's been a rough go of it for the US lately. Will this be the year the Tiger-less fresh blood steps up or will it be more of the same ? Here is the place for all of your Ryder Cup discussion.

Congratulations USA

Well done to the USA - an emphatic victory although the matches still to finish will probably make it look closer.

Some superb golf from both sides, some new heroes and some old goats (Sergio Garcia has done nothing to enhance his popularity). And a few Europeans who need to look at themselves and say "I didn't get it done".

Top drawer performances from Kim, Perry, Boo and Holmes today, and Hunter Mahan looks a star too.

Overall I'd say the Europeans now know what it feels like to see the putts raining in all over the golf course.

One thing though - I have had it up to HERE with Butch Harmon saying "that's a beautiful golf shot". Um, I think we all know it is golf.

Despite. Tiger wouldn't have laid an egg today like Leonard or some of the other guys. And I'll say it again. I think the problem for Tiger has always been finding a player with a similar mentality to pair him up with. Anthony Kim would fit very well with Tiger in the team matches. He's young, cocky, and ruthless just like Tiger. He also is pretty accurate with his driver so he could bail out Tiger's inaccuracy.

Re: Congratulations USA

Congrats US! I have a high opinion of the job that Azinger has done especially (without being able to precisely articulate why...), and I was of course impressed by quite a few of the players (on both sides) also.

Interesting... Tiger's absence may have somehow helped team chemistry or individual performance? I'll have to mull on that. I suspect it just a case of USA outplaying the Europeans. However, I'm open to alternative analyses.

Re: Congratulations USA

Interesting comment from Phil about Kim. Said he's a hoot to be around and that he laughed at everything coming out of his mouth. I really do think he would be a great fit with Tiger in 2010.

Re: Congratulations USA

I think Anthony Kim has solidified his stature as a rising superstar. This fine kid is on his way to the top.

America needed another powerhouse after the fall of David Duval. For too long it has been only Tiger and Phil, followed by several steady, if unspectacular players.

It's going to be fun to watch his career develop. I like the fact that when he first got on Tour, he was a partier and showing up to his tee times hung over, etc. but he has straightened himself up. Kinda reminds me of myself and my friends back in college. I straightened up real quick though once I graduated in May. Work from 7 AM to 6 PM so being hung over just doesn't work out very well.

Kim is going to be a huge star though. He has a ton of talent. Lots of clubhead speed for a smaller guy, similar to Tiger or Sergio. But also very accurate like Sergio yet at the same time a good putter unlike Sergio. He's basically got the combined talent of Tiger and Sergio, mixed with the same kind of cockiness that Tiger has. I don't know if he has the desire that Tiger has to make history, but he definitely has the ability to be a big time player.

I don't know if you caught it, but during today's coverage they mentioned an interview Anthony gave this weekend in which he said he has been inspired by how this year has unfolded, and he now realizes the position he has put himself in, and the great opportunity he has to become a significant force in the world of sport, like Tiger.

Re: Congratulations USA

Special week of golf.

Kim, Weekley, and Mahan really impressed me the most. Clutch shots, clutch putts, and they never let up.

Congrats to Zinger and team USA! You made us proud!

I ended up watching a good deal of the coverage and it was much better than I anticipated. Good show for the US

Re: Congratulations USA

Congrats to the US, winning this one convincingly, but with a lot more competition than we've seen the last couple of times.

I think they won despite not having Tiger and because of his absence if that makes sense. A team can't be better without the best player in the world, but I also think they used his absence as motivation (starting with Zinger) and it looked to make Mick a lot more comfortable to start this tournament. Not having constant Tiger watch probably helped a lot of the guys ease their minds.

Well, I think because of. Tiger has been a huge influence on the last two and he's been in the should've won bunch. I think the big difference this time is that he's less central.

Re: Congratulations USA

It was great seeing the US play up to their capabilities for a change. The new guys came up huge. That and some inexplicably poor play by Serge & Paddy was the difference. I liked it that each team's "Mr. Controversy", captains choices turned out to be their team's MVPs.. Mahan & Poulter. Though I'd have to give a nod to Boo and Kim for the US, too. I can't wait until 2010. I hope Boo makes the team. Now that will be a show.

Re: Congratulations USA

As I said last night before the finish, I conceded , the better team won.

I think ZInger did some smart work,Faldo some not so smart, but the difference was the players. Mahan stood out, along with Boo.

Heartiest congratultions to USA.

See you in two years....................

.

A big congrats to the american team . The team played very well, and they also had a much better captain. Thankfully, the rumours of the demise of the Ryder Cup have been greatly exaggerated!

It sure is frustrating when you knwow you have a good team and they just don't play anywhere near their best, isnt' it. Now that we've stopped the bleeding and some of our younger players have gotten a taste of Ryder Cup success, maybe 2010 will be another real battle. It's really too bad that you're going to have to put up with us until then.

Re: Congratulations USA

We won back the right to be the underdog.

A lot of people over here were worried that another pasting would see USA pull out and the event die. So if you win every decade and then we win the rest......can you live with that?

We play International team sports all the time over here. Our football, rugby and cricket teams are about to play big matches, so we will have forgotten about the golf within a couple of weeks.

When do USA next play another country at team sports?
