Ryder Cup Central Here we go again. This time at Valhalla, September 16-21, in the heart of Kentucky for Golf's bi-yearly version of The Hatfields vs. The McCoys. It's been a rough go of it for the US lately. Will this be the year the Tiger-less fresh blood steps up or will it be more of the same ? Here is the place for all of your Ryder Cup discussion.

Hi Diane. For nearly as long as golf has been around it has been viewed, by the people who play it, as a game with more honor, integrity, sophistication and high-minded behavior prevailing to a greater degree than other games.

This is an idealized perception and hope, with golfers continually striving and battling to attain or maintain this standard. This is a big part of what it means (supposedly) to be a golfer.

Droogy - I read some place that golf is the only sport that works on the honor system and is also the most cheated at sport out there.

Golf has to be the least cheated, especially at the professional level. We all know the occasional member who uses the leather wedge or always seems to find his ball after others have stopped looking, but it is a game of honour.

Thats good when 120,000 sports fans are there.
I understand that You did not see the game on site or on TV.
I saw it on TV because I am from Europe.
In my view the "sport fans" where behaving VERY unsportsmanlike!
I can not say that I was surprised, because it has happened before in America.
For me, we can have this Ryder Cup as the last Ryder Cup! Or we can "pay back" with the same behavor when Americas Team come to Europe next time. But I do not think that we can behave in the same manor, that is against the game and how we think "over here". Golf is not like hockey! If our European fans would behave like the American fans did, I had been VERY angry.

Moose,

You are wrong.

AMericans fans were in the vast majority, enthusiastic excellent hosts who enjoyed seeing the better team win.

Behaviour at Valderamma and the Belfry in recent times has been worse than what we saw last week.

We lost, get over it.

there is a chance that some European fans will ape the U.S. crowd with the 'they did it so should we mentality' but they will be in the very small minority, as lefty has said euro fans at recent Cups have behaved worse,it's over til 2010,let them have there moment in the sun, after all its not like it happens often.

Now that the American team has shown some mettle and beaten the powerful Euros, perhaps we should take on a race car driver's mentality........What's behind us isn't important! That mentality sure worked this time around.

I have no problems with the fact that Team America won! They clearly had the better team, and the putting from the American players was way ahead of the European players, But why did not the fans behave in the way that the victory were without these incidents? They earned it.

By the way, start reading again.

Re: Bad images shown on UK TV.

It seems typical of today's total lack of manners and civility shown by so much of the public. Take a look at the thugs at soccer games. When it happens at a professional golf match, I wish security would escort the ill mannered trash off the golf course and bar them from returning.

We all want the trash escorted off the golf course. Fortunately the only trash removed was in garbage bags. By all acounts The fans at Valhalla were terrific and very well behaved. A minor incident here or there gets reported and the Euro Press paints a picture of hooligans and thuggery. Listen to what the players themselves had to say before you judge the American fans poorly.

Re: Bad images shown on UK TV.

The European press have painted a very good picture of the crowds at Valhalla. If you read the articles in the Times, you will see how the hospitality was appreciated.

If you read the National Enquirer press ,you get the opinions of trailer trash.

Re: Bad images shown on UK TV.

Teams from the USA and Europe came together at Valhalla for the 37th Ryder Cup. The USA winning 16.5pts to 11.5pts. The players enjoyed the week and with no problems among the 120,000 fans who turned up to watch this golfing spectical, it was a great week.

Now that report would not sell Newspapers.

It sure sold a lot of them here in the USA.
