Common Problem with Golf Forums

Anyone else notice that if you post anywhere except General Golf Discussion, you'll get no replys? Likewise, if a moderator moves your post to the "Correct" catagory location, you'll get no replys. It appears that most users go to General Golf Discussion and "That's It".

I dunno - the pub is one of the hoppinest places around. Although I'll have to admit, without the presence of a few of our resident club doctors, and pros lately, the practice range and club repair sections have been slow.

Oh and would you like me to move this to the proper forum?

People should learn how to use the 'New Posts' function so they can see recent posts on the forums, not just one specific section.

Golf Rewound is the fourth (and best ) golf discussion board I've posted to, and on all of them I've noticed that most posts do not get replies addressed specifically to them. But that doesn't mean that no one read or enjoyed the post. It's just the nature of discussion boards. You add your and maybe someone replies and maybe someone doesn't. For me, the fun parts are reading and writing; if I get an occasional reply, so much the better.

Two things can help people get replies, I think. One is to post a lot (observing the rules and spirit of the site, of course). This will get you known a little better; people may be more likely to respond to someone they feel they know.

The other is to come right out and ask a direct question. However, if you ask the question as part of a thread that's on a different topic, the question might get overlooked by people more interested in discussing the thread's announced topic. If there's a particular question or statement that you really want a response to, just start a thread about it. Sooner or later I think you'll eventually get a reply or two.

Re: Common Problem with Golf Forums

I think I'd just like to add that this is common on almost all forums. I also frequent a tropical fish forum, and their "Chit Chat" section (all general topics) gets the majority of the traffic -- usually 50 to 60 updated threads per day (new topics or old ones that have a new post). But, most of the little subforums (like breeding, or catfish or DIY hardware) are lucky to have 1 or 2 updated posts per day, and they certainly don't get the views that the general section does.

I also like to participate in a science-based forum, and at the top is physics. The physics forum gets a lot more traffic than chemistry or biology or any other sub-forum.

I think that it is just the nature of forums. The largest, most-general section will always get the lion's share of posts. Golf usually has two very busy subforums, the general section and the equipment section. I've found it has a lot to do with the personality of the head admin. It the head admin likes things very organized and neat, there are lots of specialized subforums. On the other hand, if there are only a few main sections, each topic will be seen by more people, but if the forum is or becomes very busy, it can be hard to locate the threads you are most interested in or the topics you have the most knowledge about, this is when seperation becomes almost a necessity. There are advantages and disadvantages to each way. It also depends a lot upon the active membership.

Point well taken. Thread moved to this "errors and issues" forum.
