PLAYERS forum?

Everyone here probably saw the forum we put up for the Masters this year, and it seemed to be a big hit. This is a poll to gauge interest in a similar forum for the PLAYERS. Is it a big enough event to warrant its own forum for a few weeks, or should we just leave it in the Tour Chatter?

FWIW, we have plans to devote a whole forum to each of the four Majors plus the Ryder Cup (perhaps President's Cup) when it comes around.

Re: PLAYERS forum?

Looks unanimous so far. I didn't figure there'd be many dissenters, anyway.

Dissenters? On a golf site? Nah.

Re: PLAYERS forum?

Dissension is my middle name. The Players Championship is just another tour event. It's not a major, it's not the Ryder Cup, and it's not the President's Cup. Therefore I see no need to create of separate forum to discuss this tournament. Majors are majors for a reason and the Masters forum was a great idea but what's forum do we create next, the John Deere Classic? Discussion of the Players Championship in Tour Chatter works for me.

Re: PLAYERS forum?

With 3 more majors coming up, are you going to give them their own forums or combine them with the Masters for a Majors super forum?

Doesn't matter either way if the Players gets its own or is in tour chatter, I will read them either way.

Re: PLAYERS forum?

Each will get a new forum, but we'll be moving the Masters posts back into the Tour Chatter once the posting in them dies down a bit...probably later this week.

Re: PLAYERS forum?

Good idea. I liked the way the Masters forum turned out. Though it pretty much killed the Tour Chatter forum for a week, I think it focused interest and discussion.

I like this idea of a Majors forum with sub-forums for each major FWIW. The up-coming one would stay busy, while stories about the others could be added as they popped up before and after the events.

I agree with all of this.

Re: PLAYERS forum?

I really , really , really enjoy the TPC !

Sawgrass is such a good, challenging and exciting course!

(dare I say it ... ) but I`ve actually preferred the TPC to the Masters in some previous years. Personally the I`d like to see the TPC gets its own forum. It is one of the best events on the P.G.A. Tour.

I`m glad they`ve moved the date of this event. Now it`ll hopefully be considered more than just a `warm - up` for the Masters!

I`m not a great follower of this whole `Masters Tradition/Issue` thing, as an event (The Masters) it`s only about 70 odd years old....I have older/redundant gas street lighting posts on my street, that`s actually older than the Masters.... !

The players consider it THEIR MAJOR so if they believe it is that important for them I believe we should also consider it in the same light as a traditional major. It does carry more weight in relationship to benefits than other pga events.

"Their major?" I've never heard that one. The Players Championship traditionally has the strongest field of the year but it never was, is not, and never will be a major. I see no reason to elevate to that status here on Golf Rewound.

You appearantly don't watch much TV! They interview the players before the Players Championship and as far as I know all say it is their Major. Tiger has said numerous times it is their major and there has been some lobbying within the players to try and get it to be counted as an official major. I agree it probably won't happen but I believe it should be elevated to an importance level they feel it should be recognized as.

I've heard many players say they consider it a "5th major" but never "their major." Why would anyone think because a tournament has a strong field that it should become a major?

Throw in "should Wie be invited?" as well and I think you'll have a big hit.

Because of the fact that it has such a strong field, equal to any major or above and because it is one tough course that always seems to test a players total game. It is the type of course and setup that nomatter how many times you play it the only chance of winning is if you are in control of all aspects of your game that week. I don't really think the same can be said of any of the other majors. US Open if set up fairly is probably a good representation of a good test but very seldom does the USGA play fair.
