Smile La Quinta - SilverRock

Owned by the city and designed by Palmer, SilverRock is a fun but difficult course. Long, too. I can see why they use it in the Hope rotation. For most of us it's a driver on practically every hole. The par 3's are not terribly difficult, as long as you hit it straight. The 17th is the famous par 3 over water with a creek running behind then beside it. I hit it left, four paces short of the green, lagged it all the way across and it lipped out to about 4 feet. Dropped the putt.
The cart barn is temporary but the grill and pro shop are done. There are plans for a new clubhouse and a 2nd course adjacent to the existing course. I paid $49 on a Sunday for a cart w/ GPS and a cooler with two comp. bottles of water. I teed off alone at around 12:30 on a Sunday. I let one guy play through. That was the only traffic I had on the course as it was wide open (it was 107º). What a blast.
