Smile Hi from Cape Cod

Found this web site from "hackitout72" on the Golf Channel Discussion Boards. I love the idea of not being slammed if I ask a stupid question.

I've just started playing golf, took lessons at Holly Ridge in Sandwich last summer but didn't have a chance to play (work). They have a wonderful Newcomers Course and a newcomer's league. However, we're in FL this winter and joined the Executive golf course in the community where we're staying. I promised myself and my husband I would give golf a good chance. Well, I'm loving it!! Once I got beyond worrying what other people would think when I was first starting, it got easier to play (Adivan helped too). We play every morning and go out after 5 PM and play 6-9 holes at night.

Now when I play I'm not "missing" many shots, am not skulling many shots, and have had a couple of drives that went 150 yards. Chips Shots are the toughest, but all in all, absolutely loving it.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the boards and say thank you for having a safe place to talk about golf. I like the golf channel discussion boards, but they can get a bit nasty sometimes over there.

Welcome aboard. The only stupid question is one that is not asked, I read that in a fortune cookie.

Re: Hi from Cape Cod

You'll like it here, as previously mentioned, we have golfers of all abilities here. I myself have been playing for just two years, and still don't break 100 very often. I too struggle with the short game...I know the feeling

Re: Hi from Cape Cod

Welcome from a fellow Massachusetts-er!

I love to play golf on Cape Cod. I normally play about 5-6 rounds down there per season. My favorite courses ON the Cape are Old Barnstable Fairgrounds and Dennis Pines. But if you go just over the bridge to Plymouth, you'll find one of my favorite courses in the state, Waverly Oaks!

Glad to have you around, good luck and be patient learning the game. No one will ever tell you it's easy! And remember, always have FUN!

Re: Hi from Cape Cod

Welcome!

Looking to visit Mass for a holiday in July, not sure the wife will allow the clubs on the plane. Either staying at Plymouth or Cape Cod ,depending on availability and price.

Waverley Oaks has already caught my attention, maybe if she goes off to the FActory Outlets for a day..................

Waverly Oaks is a great track, one of my favorites (did I already say that). The other 2 in Plymouth worth playing are The Pinehills. There are 2 courses at The Pinehills, Nicklaus and Jones. Well worth the trip even though they are nearly the most expensive courses in the area ($110ish on the weekend).

Re: Hi from Cape Cod

Nice to hear from everyone, thanks for all the welcomes. The Cape does have some nice courses. Barnstable now owns two courses - Fairgrounds and Iyanough on Rte. 132. New Seabury is excellent although I think they've gone completely private. If you ever get the chance to play the Blue Course, try to. It runs along side the ocean and is absolutely beautiful and very challenging.

We played today but I had my first rain out. On the 4th hole, we enjoyed a Florida downpour; got some good exercise jogging to the clubhouse.

I noticed a lot of folks list their clubs! Mine are a bit unusual, but I absolutely love them.

Calloway GES clubs: Driver, Long & Mid Fairway, Long, Mid, & Short Iron, and a putter. That's it. They're lightweight and have the best sound when hit - that beautiful "Ping" sound. GES = golf enjoyment system. I bought them at Martin's in Myrtle Beach two years ago.

Welcome! Nasty commentors don't have a chance here. Great site and hope you enjoy. PS- Don't worry what others think about your play. Just enjoy! Not everyone started out as a Tiger Woods!
