Greetings from Portland, OR

Hello everyone. I've been an avid lurker on Golfrewind and GolfWRX for a couple years now so its nice to find another site I can go to. I really like the feel of this site better, I don't think I will be going back to Rewind or WRX anytime soon.

I don't have a handicap but I usually shoot in the high 70's to mid 80's. I think if I could ever figure out putting, I might be able to become scratch golfer someday. I really enjoy talking about golf so I'm really glad to be a member here. Talk to you all soon.

Hello Jedi! You were an avid lurker so you're probably familiar with a lot of members here. I hope that's a good thing........ make yourself at home and welcome to GRW.

I play most of the nearby 9-hole courses: Meriwether, McKay Creek, Killarney, Sunset Grove and Claremont. The nearest to me is McKay Creek, so I play it often. I like to practice at Quail Valley though - they have grass tees and a good short game area. How about you?

Quail Valley is one of my favorites. I've had some memorable moments there. I live next to Red Tail so I practice and play there mostly but I like to go all over. I use to go to McKay Creek alot but I stopped going there, I got tired of ducking for cover every 2 minutes, the place is a death trap. Meriwether and Claremont are decent places if you want to play a quick 9 after work. My favorite course in the Portland/SW Washington area is Camas Meadows. I highly recommend playing there if you haven't yet.

Haven't played Camas Meadows yet. The only Washington course I've played is Lewis River (for Father's Day last year). I thought Lewis River was a great course.

I've only played Red Tail once. Nice course, but very busy. I agree with you about McKay Creek, since the fairways all run parallel to each other and there's very few trees between them.

Welcome aboard, Jedi! You're posting from the birthplace of my late, but still beloved father. Portland is a wonderful town, with quite the beautiful countryside. Enjoy your stay here at GRW!

Re: Greetings from Portland, OR

Hey there, you'll have fun here. Good people. Wish I just had your ONE problem-putting. I scrape together a 13 hcp somehow. Check out (a little north) Lewis River, nice course. So is Camas, Cedars (in summer), and if you want to head up the gorge a little, go to Indian Creek in Hood River. All kinds of good courses in/around Portland. Best layout? Might just be Forest Hills, old but has a little bit of everything. And check out Wildwood too-but get a cart if in the summer, a little hilly.

Forest Hills is a good course. You're right about Wildwood near Scappoose - it's pretty hilly. Gotta love that tee shot on the 9th hole where one stands a chance on hitting the power lines!
