Mayakoba Golf Classic

Anyone paying attention to this event this weekend? Looks like Fred Funk is trying to notch one for the old guys...continuing his good play from the Champions Tour lately and racking up a 62 in the first round. It's also nice to see a couple of young guys in Haas and Stadler up on the board as well. Could be a nice weekend for one of those guys.

Well I am not paying attention to it as much as the match play and the LPGA. I am thpugh checking the scores because of Fantasy golf , but that is about it. BTW I picked both Funk & Beckman. I can't believe it.

I am going to try and catch some of the coverage on TGC this weekend. The Mayakoba is located not far from where we vacation every year and we have watched the course being built for the last 2 years. It looks very nice from what you can see from the highway.

Cameron Beckman & Boo Weekley are in the club house at -9 after both shooting a -3 today and tied with them is Fred Funk on the 12th hole with a -1 today. There are also several at -8 right now. It looks like it is going to be an exciting weekend in Mexico.

Congrats to Freddie Funk who becomes the 2nd guy to win on the Champions & PGA tours in the same year. I suspect this isn't the last noise he'll make on the big tour, either. Distance has never been an issue for him because he's always been short. He's been consistently competitive right into his 50th year and now seems to have found soemthing that's working for him on the greens, too. Way to go homeboy !

That was a pretty good event for Fred. His game hasn't abandoned him and I don't doubt he can make a big splash on both the PGA and Champion's tours this season.
