PGA Tour records...?

The U.S. PGA Tour must have a record book, right? I mean lowest scoring avg. in a season, wins in a season, etc. etc. etc.

Why is it no matter how far and wide I look I can find no reference to a PGA Tour record book? I know they keep records - where do we find them?

Thanks.

I agree... it's very difficult to find a complete compilation of PGA Tour records. I wonder why that is?

You really have to hunt around and even then you'll only find bits and pieces everywhere. PGATOUR.com is pretty thorough for current and yearly stuff going back to 1980. For more historical and all-time info PGATOUR.com is pretty abysmal. they even quit posting how old the various tour members are... ridiculous. With all of the info at their disposal you'd think they'd make available better historical data. How hard could it be ? Golfonline.com used to have some good historical info, but they seem to have pulled much of it recently. I usually just Google the stat I'm interested in and more often than not I'll find it somewhere. Let us know if you come up with something.

Perhaps because these days the records are changing almost weekly.

They maintain individual records of all current players week to week. All they'd have to do is roll they weekly details into whatever historical totals they maintain. The historical stuff would take care of itself once it was set up.

I would start at www.tigerwoods.com. That will take care of a good bit of the records.

Re: PGA Tour records...?

If I remember right, the stats on PGATour.com go back to around 1980 and they have a ton of stats that most would consider pointless overall. I'd rather see a wider time range on the important stats and less emphasis on some of the sillier ones that they keep track of now.

The 2007 PGA TOUR Media Guide has a complete records section. You can purchase the guide for $24.95. E-mail maureenfeeley@pgatourhq.com and she'll get the ball rolling for you.

So they don't make that available online ?

Not to threadjack, but welcome to the site, droogy! Hopefully there'll be plenty of interesting developments in the pro game this year to keep you busy on here.

As an aside, Golf Online's GolfStats still does work. I haven't really checked to see what all it has, but it goes back to 1970 with each individual tournament result, I believe.

Do you have a link Card ? I when I go to the Stats option on golfonline now all I see are options for current stats. There used to be options for plugging in a player or tournament and getting complete results back to 1970. Maybe I just forgot where it is ?

It must have its own separate site now...maybe Sal Johnson ended his association there. Anyway...

Actually, Johnson has moved to a new site, called Golf Observer, and has re-located GOLFSTATS there.

Looking for statistics? Try »» PGA Tour or Sports Network

Looking for season-to-date tournament results? Try »» GOLFSTATS, USA Today, Sports Network or YAHOO!

Re: PGA Tour records...?

Firstly, thanks Stl for welcoming me. It's good to be back with this great gang.

Secondly, Waz, no...you won't find a site which contains obscure PGA TOUR records. As others have stated you may find the major historical stats, year-by-year, at pgatour.com, but they only go back to 1980.

And, while GolfStats gives you historical leaderboards going back to 1970 (back further for the majors) they do not provide the entire fields. You can not see who missed the cuts.

For all other comprehensive records you need the TOUR's Media Guide.
