2008 FedEx Cup

At the end of 2007, TW had 30K Fedex Points. 2nd place, Vijay had 19K.

Currently TW, has 22K points. My guess is that Mr. Finchem will keep TW on top of that leaderboard regardless of events played, in the very slim hope that TW makes a comeback for the FedEx Cup.

So, when points are reset for "The Playoffs", Mr. Woods will probably get the 100K and start off with the lead. Without playing a single event, he will more than likely qualify for the Top 30 and The Tour Championship, thereby getting huge bonus money without eveing teeing it up.

I couldn't find the FedEx rules regarding TW's situation. Anybody care to guess?

Re: 2008 FedEx Cup

It would be a laugh if Tiger won the Fed-up cup without even playing in it.

Re: 2008 FedEx Cup

I will enjoy seeing Tiger's name at the top of the FedEx Cup Leaderboard throughout the rest of the season. Why should the rules be changed? If he's got more points than everyone else, than he's got more points, period. Maybe someone on the Tour will step up and over-take him and spare everyone else the embarrassment of being dusted by someone who played in a fraction of the events.

Re: 2008 FedEx Cup

According to the "experts"

Q. Can Tiger win the FedExCup again this season?
A. No. Even if Woods can hold onto first in the regular season standings -- he currently leads Phil Mickelson by 6,953 points --- he will have no shot at remaining No. 1 at the end of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. When the players are reseeded entering the Playoffs, Woods would only be 500 points ahead of second place and just 7,930 ahead of No. 144. A win at The Barclays, the first Playoff event, is worth 11,000 points and second 7,400 so Woods is sure to be supplanted. Even with Woods out of the mix, though, the man who wins the FedExCup will have played stellar golf. Projections indicate the winner of the $10 million bonus will probably need a victory and a top-five finish or two in the Playoffs. And for the record, as was the case last year when Bernhard Langer elected not to participate, the starting field for The Barclays will be 143 players. The 145th will not gain entry just because Woods is not able to play.

Re: 2008 FedEx Cup

Greetings ....

While Tiger Woods rehabs his aching patella, the ....

145th player after Wyndham-Greensboro
121st player after Barclays Classic
71st player after Deutsche Bank
-AS WELL AS THE-
31st player after the B-M-and-W

... will all be you-know-what-out-of-luck, thanks to the no replacements rule in the current Fed Ex Cup set-up.

The Fed Ex Cup is a tournament - not your standard type tournament to be sure - but it is definitely a tournament. But unlike standard tournaments, the Fed-X allows absolutely NO replacements for those who are injured or who have a family crisis situation or who are (the unthinkable!)

I believe in certain types of fairness and democracy. Sorry, Fed X - but you just don't deliver on this one!

Thanx-A-Lot (except to Tee-Finch and his X Men), Frank-0-Sport
