US Women's Open

There is a serious tournament going on here.

Lorena is nowhere, Annika is probably too far back.
This is a real opportunity for someone.

Stacy Lewis, like MW, is trying to make enough money to avoid q-school. Incidentally, money won at the US Open doesn't count, so if she finishes 2nd, it won't help her one bit in gaining an lpga tour card. However a win would give her that tour card.
Anyway, she was NCAA champion. She also lead an lpga tournament after one round last year, and then it was rained out the next 3 days, so she was the unofficial winner there, while still an amateur.

Then how about Paula Creamer. Just one shot off the lead, really contenting for a major, she hasn't really done that, she has so many 20th place-ish finishes in majors, this is a big chance for her.

Another young girl Inn Bee Park, she was huge in the juniors, could be yet another young major breakthrough winner.

Helen Afredson, European Solheim Cup captain, honestly didn't expect her to contend.

And of course Mi Hyun Kim, lots of lpga tournament wins, but not a major winner yet.

Angela Park probably faded too much. Lead after 2 rounds, but a 75 put her 5 shots back.
Momoko probably too far back, so who will win?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Creamer.

Re: US Women's Open

Watched some of the coverage yesterday. I must say, the LPGA is getting much easier to watch with Creamer, Pressel, Blomqvist, some of the Korean ladies, etc. Not only are they attractive, they play well. Saw some nice bunker shots and wedge play, but the ladies overall still don't appear to have the putting skills the men have, even at the Nationwide level. But overall I found the women's US Open on NBC as interesting and entertaining as the men's Buick Open showing on CBS.

I just don't like watching womens golf and here's why...

They are very talented...more talented and better players than I ever will be...but the level of skill when compared to the men's tour pales and would seem more readily attainable with the amount of young stars that routinely emerge...17 and 18 year olds make debuts on the men's tour from time to time, but rarely become Sunday regulars as happens on the womens tour until they get a little more seasoning...the men's tour is a more competitive IMO, and with a larger pool of available talent that is trying to break in, I am assured of a higher quality product when I watch a mens event vs a women's event...

Brand me what you will...I just get tired watching the women miss putts by wide margins...the potential and ablility to make the exceptional play seems to be lacking in the women's game...or I'm just not watching enough...but the jaw dropping shots that I enjoy during men's events just don't happen very often with the women unfortunately and my interest turns to their relative level of "hotness", at which point I realize that there are other things that I could be doing...

So let me have it...

No, just armed with a live leaderboard and 4 hours of tv coverage.

Oh, by the way, you know Wie used to have Gilchreest as coach and Leadbetter took over.
Not sure if many people heard of the hype with Gilchreest being coach to Pettersen and all the success she had etc.
Well she just sacked Gilchreest and moved to Leadbetter!!!!

Not I, Bigvivec. I agreed with everything you stated. I watch professional athletics for more than merely entertainment. I want to be mightily impressed. I want to see the best of the best. Only men can provide that.

These female pros are good...for women. But they're not great. This is why I do not watch them.

Just +6 for the round through 12 holes, and well out of contention.
My predictions are as good as ever.

Her playing partner Stacy Lewis is also .. over herself, +5 for her round.
Interesting last group pairing!!

In Bee Park, 4 clear of the field with 5 to play.

I like the jaw dropping beautiful swings you get to see on the LPGA. That's why I like to watch the women play.

Major disappointment for Paula.

She opted out of a chance to play in the final pairing last fall with Ochoa in the million-dollar shootout, and I really questioned her reasoning. I'm starting to understand her reasoning now, however. She just struggles under pressure.

Different strokes I guess. I've always enjoyed womens sports, with the exception of basketball, but then that's not one of my favorite sports anyway. Every argument you make for your disinterest in womens golf could be made against college football & basketball vs the pros. In fact I've made those arguments and prefer to watch the pros.

Anybody else see Annika's third shot at 18 on Sunday - a holeout from 195 or so? How memorbable will that be for her?

I saw her shot. What a fantastic way to end her Open career. Funny thing was, she didn't know it went in until the crowd erupted.

Ok, here's what might be a silly question, but that stupid pink ball she plays on Sundays, is it possible for it to be exactly the same as her "regular" balls?

I think she needs to drop the pink personally, it almost seems like she spends more time thinking about how pink she can be than how good she can be.

"Maybe I can get pink clubs!"

I don't know if I'm still on ignore, but I have a question if you can see me. Would you suggest someone else drop one of their "things" such as Tiger wearing a red shirt on Sunday? Pink is her signature - she's not going to give it up.

I don't think it is a silly question. Even if the color was the only difference, it would be too much of a difference to me. I think the (dark) pink ball 'looks' completely different than a white ball, and personally I wouldn't choose to upset myself by setting up to one of those.

Right on! , why give it up, I like it anyway. Now Tiger is a different story. I would be delighted if he gave up red on Sunday, ( he looks so much better in any other color he wears ) I always thought he was copying Lee Trevino ( with the red ) anyway.

Well it was very important since she was heading for 80 if she got par. She mentioned that in her interview, that she was hoping to have a good shot in to set up a birdie putt and try to avoid 80, so going in was a huge bonus.

On the whole though, someone like Annika won't be happy with her overall performance.

Bubba uses, or used to use, pink shafts.

Re: US Women's Open

I was on the 18th hole by the left fairway bunker when Annika holed out. It was pretty amazing and the greatest shot I have ever seen.

As for Inbee Park, I thought she was some random fluke winner like Rich Beem. But then I checked her record and shes been one of the best young players for a while now, with a boatload of junior wins. So shes very deserving of this win.

I hate to see another Korean win though. They all look the same and have long names that are easily confused.

Well your two American girls were 1st and 2nd going into the final round, and both of them blew it, so that's just the way it is.
