The French Open has just finished and has been won by Pablo Larazzabel (Sp?) who is in his first season and had to PQ for this week.

He has had only 93 Putts all week, while Monty finished 2nd, 4 back, taking 121 Putts.

Watch out for this guy, he could be Spains next Seve.

More proof of the new young blood coming through on the European tour.

I do have a good feeling about a Tigerless US RC team though...it might be just what the doctor ordered in terms of shaking these guys up and letting them know that to win more than one will have to stand up and be counted...

The Open de France ALSTOM was a most thrilling, intriguing and entertaining championship this week. Wonderful, historic course, and keen competition.

Pablo Larrazabal was exhilarating as he played with great flair and style. He has loads of confidence and he took many great chances this week. Kind of hard to believe this was his first top 25 finish of the year.

It was interesting to watch Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie as they played what I thought was somewhat guarded golf. They were overly careful and seemed equally concerned with possible mistakes as with hitting quality shots. Larrazabal showed no such bother.

I was also quite pleased to see the young and stunningly-talented Oliver Fisher grind his way to a solid top-ten finish...the third this year for the future star. The 19-yr. old is having a wonderful second season on the European Tour. This is his 10th top 25 in 18 starts, and he moves into the top 40 on the OOM.

And one more thing...the celebration on the 18th green, by the Spaniards, was wonderful and uplifting. They give the French a run for their money when it comes to victory celebrations. You just don't see this on the PGA TOUR.

All in all, a great week on the European Tour, with a few more lined up in the stretch to The Open Championship.

The course played extremely tough. Thats why many guys were using 3 woods and irons of the tee which was leaving a very long iron shot into greens.

The young spaniard had nothing to loose and everything to gain. Having pre qualified for the event he was more concerned about securing his card for next season.

But with Westwood and Montgomery just a couple of shots at one stage he seemed fearless and went for every flag unlike the seasoned pros who were hitting middle of the green and trying to score from 20-30 feet.

Sorry, we save the soccerlike celebrations for Ryder Cup victories.
