Day 2 @ the Open

GREG NORMAN IS IN 1ST!!!!!!!

Okay, it is only after one hole on day two, but Chrissy must be doing something to make his putter flutter. The old shark is currently in the lead. Way to go Greg.

Same here...and Norman remains at -1 through 12 for a one shot lead. You have to think this can't continue but I'm going to enjoy it every minute I can.

Re: Day 2 @ the Open

Norman with back-to-back 70s for a current one stroke (and clubhouse) lead, Villegas with a huge 65 today getting back to +1.

Mediate with a solid round again is two back, Adam Scott and van de Velde sit at four back after finishing up today.

Re: Day 2 @ the Open

McDowell also made 73 today to sit at +2, while Jim Furyk has been quietly efficient with back to back 71s, also +2. Conditions seem to be a bit less brutal, although MA Jimenez is taking a beating, 12 over for the day after 15 holes - he'll be on the plane to Spain tonight.

Cut looks like being +7 or +8.

Re: Day 2 @ the Open

Greetings ...

Where's Marty Feldman (Young Frankenstein) to tell us it's been an Abby-Norman Championship so far?

Camilo Villegas shot 65, eh? Fine. But's it only Friday, and his weekend game could be like a box of chocolates.

Jean Van de Velde at plus-4 after two rounds. A story here, maybe. Oooh, McDowell and Mediate sitting at plus-2 after 36. More stories?

Weir, Choi, Poulter, Montgomerie, Duval and 1st alternate Heath Slocum, all yet to play, are among those within three of the lead.

Wide Open Open - Indeed!

Thanx-A-Lot and Enjoy, Frank-0-Sport

Re: Day 2 @ the Open

The cut line is drifting - still quite a few guys on the course and there are 74 at +8 or better - only 4 need to go to +9 to bring a lot more guys into the weekend.

Re: Day 2 @ the Open

KJ with a big round to take the clubhouse lead at -1. Norman sits alone one back at this point and Camillo one back of Norman all alone at this point.

And a large group at +2 including one big surprise still out on the course finishing up.

David Duval was one of only 12 players in the red today to get to +2, three back, and tied for fourth! Go Double D!

Re: Day 2 @ the Open

Padraig Harrington looked very much on song through the closing holes, and finished eagle, birdie.

I reckon Padraig will retain The Open.

I very much enjoyed seeing him move up the board today...and Norman too! My two favorite non-Tiger golfers of the last 15 years...so I am psyched for the weekend and hope at least one of them can hold form and be in contention on Sunday. Both would be a treat.

Re: Day 2 @ the Open

It's great how these wonderful things seem to work out in major championships. Especially at The Masters and The Open Championship. (There, I said it)

I was thinking that it would take something quite unique to make people temporarily forget about Tiger's absence. And bang! Greg Norman contending?! David Duval contending?! We're in the Twilight Zone.

This has already been one of the great Opens, and I have a feeling this weekend is going to be special. Several great guys in the hunt.

And what a beautiful course! And beautiful weather, too. The perfect setting for one of the world's great sporting events.

There are great stories everywhere you look near the top right now, it's cool. But seriously, give me Duval and Norman too. I don't expect Duval to have a weekend good enough to win, but who knows? It would be nice to see him win a Major when so many said he'd never win again. But in all honesty, it's already been a treat, hopefully he and Norman continue it.

To tell you the truth, I think Greg will succumb to fatigue. He won't finish in the top ten.

But Duval just may surprise everyone. He seems very cool out there, like he has tempered expectations. I saw something in his swing that made me think he can keep things going. He hasn't swung this well in years.

But, there is a Wood,s near the top. 20years old English Amateur Chris Wood. He even got the crowd roaring with his chip-in on the 18th for a 70 (Just like Rose did last time there)
