I followed Michelle Wie from hole 3 to 9 today. I had no clue she was even playing a round, it was unannounced and the only way i found her was by following David Leaderbetter from the practice range to hole 3.

She was practicing alone, but on every hole she was at least 30 yards ahead of where I seen other players hit their tee shots earlier. Her length is definately not exaggerated. She almost hit the par 5 3rd in 2, which I didn't see anyone else do, and she drove the green on the 317 yard 7th, but the foward tees were being used so it was probably 280. Then on the 227 8th hole, she used iron while most players were using a 5 or 3 wood.

Plus she autographed my hat, how nice of her. Her parents were there, they were friendly. There were only about 15 of us following her, it was so fun with so few specators around. Unfortunately, my camera ran out of batteries, so I only managed to get 1 medicore picture of her. Otherwise, I would have 50 really good ones.

I think I will see her again tomorrow, but theres probably going to be way more than 20 people following her, and she might not be alone, which would be very bad for picture taking.

The field has no chance this week from the way shes playing her practice round.

I'm sure she's hit some 300 with the roll they get at a few of the places she's played. She's the longest woman, but not by much, when she's on her game. I don't think anyone ever inflated it beyond that.

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

She hit a 300 yard drive today, uphill and into the wind on hole number 5. If you can get it over the plateau, which she has the length to do, you can get it on a downslope and get some more roll. It did roll abit, but it was massive. People were watching that hole all day and said it was easily the longest. But it was only 1 of the 3 drives. One other hit a tree and was about 250, and another was about 275 in the rough.

I'll take the field against Wie for a sleeve of balls if you're so convinced that Wie can do something this week that she's never done. What do you say?

Although I think gambling is a fool's errand...I, too, would gladly take the field against Wie for a sleeve of balls (winner's choice), if Wildbore is so inclined to take the bet.

Thirty yards ahead of who, exactly? "At least 30 yards ahead of where I seen other players hit their tee shots" is a completely meaningless anecdote.

Absolutely she has (though I won't grant you that she's the longest woman out of hand). However, every time you see her driving distance stats, it's always the same - 270, 275, 278. Excuses are always given, of course - they only measure on 2 holes, she doesn't hit driver, etc. - but back in the day, before the "injury," there were plenty of stories about the 300 yard girl who had the length to play with the men.

Whatever the reason is, the actual results have always been different than the alleged prodigious length.

Was it in the snow, too? Did she have to walk uphill both ways to get to it?

Snow-Schmo! That was a blizzard she was hitting into! Or was it a hurricane? I forget...anyway...winds over 100 mph into her face up a severely steep hill...she's a behemoth!!!

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

2 debates going on ....

- as regards the bet, I would also like to take the field versus Wie if Wildbore is interested.

- on the driving distance, some article writers quoted her as averaging 300 off the tee, these were very few and far between. Most said she sometimes drives the ball 300 yards, a very different description, and a description which is true.

Reasonable and logical. I like that.

I don't recall claims that she averaged 300 yards. She averages in the 270s, which would put her at or near the top of the LPGA driving stats.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh I do - all the stories of the girl who hit the ball 300 yards, was long enough to play with the men, on and on and on. Believe me, with all the arguments I had with Rodney_C on this, all the stats I posted to counter the hype, from tournament after tournament, having to look the stuff up because she wasn't a member of the LPGA Tour - I remember for sure that claim was made. It would be one of the great historical re-writes of all time to say that wasn't the case.

You didn't say it, but it was said.

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

I think I was being sarcastic on the field has no chance. She played good for the 6 holes I followed her on, but there was also the other thier 18 or 9 holes she played yesturday morning and the 18 this morning that I ddin't see. So I really can't tell you with 100% certainty that the field has no chance.

On another note, I saw Morgan Pressel today. I can't believe I bashed her so much before. She is so cute and cuddly looking when you see her in person. I think she must have lost like 20 pounds, because last time I saw her she was chubby. Now shes definately better looking than even Wie or Creamer. Too bad I can't have access to the clubhouse or I would ask her out.

I think she saw Wildbore stalking her again and got a little spooked.

Wie is +7 through 11 at the moment. There's a lot of golf to be played but this isn't the direction she wants to go.

Wildbore? Are you kidding? He's an amateur when it comes to what Wie has had to deal with over the years. ....

You're right. On a looks point of view, I'd take her ahead of Wie or Creamer any day.
