Nancy isn't that old, it is still very possible that she could do very well.
I respect Nancy Lopez but we heard the same thing from Arnie and Jack the last 10 years of their careers. Nancy is 50 years old and she's won one tournament in 14 years. She better hope this "run for their money" is a short dash because today's young players will leave her in their dust.

Now I hope she goes out and blows them all away!

Speaking of the youngsters, how about 3 young American winners in the first 3 lpga events. That's a big story.
Given that Nancy has got really serious about working out, perhaps Juli Inksters fitness success has inspired her.
Nancy will probably beat Natalie at the Ginn Open.

35 pounds still doesn't put Nancy in the Inkster fitness range. What makes you think lopez will beat Natalie?

I was always a big Nancy Lopez fan but I'd be amazed if she was remotely competitive. It's nice to hear that she's decided to get into some semblance of playing condition, but she's no Julie Inkster. Physical fitness has always been a way of life for Julie and at 46 even she's showing signs of slowing down competitively.

Hopefully Michelle Wie gets better soon, I would like to see her win on the LPGA Tour and play a few PGA Tour events. Its always fun to watch her, and I hope she continues on the PGA Tour because she is on the edge of making cuts.

Yeah, another 13-14 strokes and she'll be right there!

Yes League, if you look at it as a percentage of the total strokes she's within 10%

She was fun to watch as a 13 & 14 year old but now she's just your average golfer.

Yeah you're right, she didn't really do anything as a 15 or 16 year old.
For example 3 top 5s in majors at a 16 year old, that's pretty average stuff.
Lots of golfers did that in 2006. There was Tiger Woods, and there was Michelle Wie and there was ..... oh actually that's it, but anyway yeah pretty average.

Do you judge all players on one tournament?

And by the way, you said she was fun to watch as a 13 & 14 year old. She has improved dramatically since then.

Yes improved dramatically till midway last year and then regressed dramatically, can't you see that?

I wouldn't conclude regression on any player based on a 5 tournament stretch. If you were to use that as a yardstick, you could probably say that most top players have regressed probably twice or three times every season.

While she played poorly in those events, it simply isn't enough tournaments to make any assumptions based on that.

When she has her run of 2007 lpga events, that will give an idea as to where her 2007 game is at.

Given the low number of events Wie plays in, I think her most recent 5 was enough to make a reasonable conclusion. If any one of the top players you referred to had a run of 5 events like Wie's last 5 you can bet he/she would feel they were regressing too.

Firstly there was a big progression from the Casio to the Sony, that's for sure. If you had watched her at the Casio you would know what I was talking about. Most of the crowd there were waiting to cheer a birdie that didn't come and it is not that difficult of a course. To put it in context, if I played 2 rounds there, I would expect to make several birdies.

For her run of poor events, there was more bad scheduling involved than anything else. She was very obviously unprepared for the Casio event. The same could be said for the Omega at which she played after having had a nice holiday, and then gone back to school before playing it, as well as having sponsor commitments in London on the way to the actual event.

The Lumber was actually much better, but it's length and wetness didn't really let her play be reflected in the score.
The Samsung was not very good, but it wasn't as bad as the score suggests. Herself and Karrie Webb dropped numerous penalty shots and made some very high numbers, simply by getting very bad positions when wayward off the tee.

For the Sony, apart from teeing off, her game was excellent.

Also important is the changes she has been going through with her swing. I support those changes, and I think that things clicking into place will take her onto the next level, and instead of being one of the long hitters, she will be the dominant longest hitter of the womens tour. In my opinion, only Lorena will have a chance to go with her to the next level of womens golf. When Michelle is 20, I would expect a great rivalry between herself and Lorena, with Michelle taking the number 1 sport, but with Lorena successfully winning many events as well.

Remind me to hire you if I ever need a professional to make excuses for me.

No matter how you paint it, the bottom fell out of her game the last 5 events she played. How and why doesn't matter.

There is an important difference between excuses and reasons.

The important thing is that the bottom did not fall out of her game.
She simply lacked in some areas, and she particularly showed great improvement at the Sony in various aspects of her game. She showed that she could produce certain shots that she just hadn't produced in tournament play before that. That kind of progression is very important.

Her game was in transition, and having that transition at a time of few events was a good time to have it. Assuming she has a clear run at golf, I would expect her play through the June, July stretch on the lpga tour to be very good indeed.

Call it whatever you like rodney, golfers are judged by their scorecards. No matter what color you paint them, Wie's scorecards were not a pretty sight.
