Extremely unprofessional and classless.
No question about it.

I can understand her being DQ'd for failing to sign her scorecard. But allowing her to play while knowing ahead of time that she was technically DQ'd, I think it's self-serving. They probably understood what impact it would have on the ratings, and opted to milk it for all it was worth.

And for Witters to take on the role of roving reporter afterwards.... feeling compelled to inform everyone of what transpired between them in private -- completely out of line.

I read the transcript of Michele's DQ press conference - I think Witter's comments weren't as harsh as we're making them out to be.

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

IMO, the issue wasn't WHERE she signed the card, it was that she had already vacated the scoring tent and had to come back TO the tent to sign her card. Once she leaves the tent, she's done, from what I understand of the articles I've read. Witter's comments were not very professional and her decision to let her play on Saturday were most likely due to ratings. Any no-name player would have probably been told before the round...IMO.

But all this hooey about how she should have been given a free pass and allowed to sign and not be DQ'd is just that...HOOEY. As unfair as it is, that's the rule and it applies to everyone equally. It can't be assessed based on a person's individual talent or popularity or any other factor. She should have been DQ'd, but it should have been handled better.

And Bore...as far as being the best player ever to play the game...get real. We all know you love Ms. Wie with the heat of a thousand suns, but come on...let's try to stay in reality here, ok?

Man...I just started a new job last week and it's really cutting into my GRW time!! Oh yeah...and I just moved and don't have internet access at home yet. It's been a week and I'm dying without it! I hope it's connected tonight when I get home!

I didn't take them as being harsh, myself. I read it as though Witter was a little upset about having to break the bad news to her.

Thank you for posting that. I retract my comments earlier, they were not reflective of the exact facts. It seems that it was handled fairly imo.

My apologies....

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

What is up with Michelle? I could understand the first couple of rules infractions when she was just a rank beginner, but the time has come for her to start crossing the "Ts" and dotting the "i's". This last one was a doozie. Out of a field of over 100 golfers, she is the only one who can't sign her scorecard? Give me a break. This pity poor me act has worn thin with me. Either start to act and play like a PROFESSIONAL, or go back to being an amateur. The time has come to fish or cut bait.

Yes, me too. The original reports took one comment completely out of context. Who'd a thunk the press would do something like that.

Judging from her play the 1st 3 rounds I suspect she'll be fishing for awhile. So she's a little flakey, big deal.

I thought Ms. Wie was staying away from PGA events this year. What happened?

Not only that, they substancially reduced Wie's chances of getting a Tour Card for next season, and thus reduced next years attendance and TV ratings by 20%.

The whole LPGA should basically jump off the cliff for the sake of golf.
Let's be real here. It was Wie that had the "brain-freeze." Signing your scorecard is the #1 priority after completing any tournament round. Wie has played in enough tournaments to know that and she should've known better. Not signing her card is on her, not the LPGA. By the way, this is the same LPGA that in the past has bent over backwards for Wie to the point of changing qualifying rules for the LPGA Championship. The LPGA has done plenty for Wie. It's time she did something for herself.

What happened was she played a few good rounds. I think playing the men again is a bit premature, but whatever. I guess it's better than not playing at all.

Anyway, it's only 7472 yards, so it's just a pitch and putt course really.

One thing is very amusing about this. Some people (you know who you are) said she would never be offered a pga tour exemption again.

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

And others of us said she'd never make a cut. That bet is still on if you want a piece of it. Wie is playing in the PGA"s weakest field and coming off her best 3 day performance as a pro. She's a lock to make the cut, right?

I have a sleeve of golf balls of choice that says she misses this cut too. Any takers?

I'd take that bet except that you're on the wrong side of it...

She doesn't have a chance and turning into a circus sideshow...

No, it's too soon. But at least she will get 2 competitive rounds before the Canadian Open, so that's better than nothing.

You didn't see the same clip I did then. They said she had been crying and she held her head downward in the video so it cast a shadow over her eyes. They said you could tell she was very upset by what had occurred. Shame she wasn't born a blonde and she would have a reason for an excuse to fall back on.

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

I'm 39 yrs old, and I don't get too emotional about things much of the time.

That said, I can guarantee you that had I done something as neglectful as she did, as simple as signing my name, and that not only costing me the opportunity to cash a nice check upwards of 100k or more, but likewise having the real potential of impacting my ability to make more money than that next year? I'd probably be shedding a few tears myself.

Those opportunities don't come around that often. So I don't blame her for becoming emotional about it. I probably would've myself.

I don't bet often and when I do I'm "on the wrong side of it" even less often.

I really can't understand why Wie would even consider starting her PGA Tour freakshow all over again.

In an interview with TGC, Leadbetter said he didn't agree with her decision, but understood it since it was one of her last chances to play in a competitive tournament this year. I think she has one or two more LPGA events and that's it for her this year isn't it??? Another question, if she does miraculously make the cut at the PGA, do her winnings count towards her LPGA card?
