Michelle Wie 24/7

I figure we're going to need one of these sooner or later! I expect that Rodney_C will be checking in once MW tees it up again!

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

When is she playing next?

This is funny because I don't think I made more than 3 or 4 posts in the old Wie threads...

I am just bored this afternoon and trying to have some quick fun!

She is still recovering from her injury, will miss the two lpga Hawaii events that are on Thursday 8th February and the 15th February.
She played one each of those events in 2005 & 2006 and was 2nd and 3rd in them, and she knows the courses well.

So when will she play next?
Kraft Nabisco is the end of March, and it's doubtful she will play before that.

Welcome to the new site Rodney!

I assume the injury is the wrist?

Still don't know why people are so intent on discussing someone who hasn't won yet and from the looks of it, may be a while.

Yes it is, she initially pulled out of the SBS which is on the 15th, and wasn't sure about the Fields, but she has pulled out of that as well.
Organisers were saying that she could still play, but that's only them looking for publicity, because she only starts hitting balls again around the time of that event, so it's doubtful she would play with no practice going into it.

Since the Sony, she has taken the complete break and rested her wrist properly like the doctors told her to do after the Samsung.

Hopefully Wie will return well rested, healed, and at 100%........so we can start talking about all the things that are wrong with her again.

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

Hopefully she's working on that driver. That will hurt her chances even on the LPGA tour. If she can start hitting that club a little better (control-wise), then I don't doubt she'll win on the LPGA this year. If she continues to struggle with it the way she has been, I'd be surprised if she wins. Good luck to her.

In my opinion, she should develop a safe shot. One she can hit that will find the fairway the vast majority of the time. That means that if she ever has problems with driving, she can revert to the safe shot, and at least hit the fairway, even if it wasn't the longest drive.

That could have saved her some penalty strokes at the Sony Open, as well as giving her a much better chance at scoring in general.

Re: Michelle Wie 24/7

Hey Rodney...maybe you can answer a question for me...

If Michelle's wrist is so bad she has to wait until March for her next LPGA event (and I'm not doubting that), then why did she play in the PGA event? Were her doctors telling her differently before the Sony and then changed their mind afterwards or did she aggravate the injury at the Sony?

I'm just curious since she's now going to miss LPGA events because of the injury.

True enough...that's what I need to do, too.

After the Samsung, she was told to rest her wrist and not play any golf for a while. That was just advise, but she didn't take it.

At the Sony, she realised that playing on through it just wasn't going to let it heal properly and would just draw it on and on. So the decision was taken to actually heed the advice and take the complete break from golf that was advised.

The injury itself isn't very serious, and probably didn't affect her much, if at all, at the Sony, but playing through it could have made it more serious than it should have been if she had continued more tournament golf too soon after the Sony Open.

Ahhhh...we've all been young and felt bulletproof and invincible once. But then age and wisdom catch up with us and we grab our cane and go play golf anyway.

Confident predictions: Wie will continue to miss fairways (maybe she should go back to her old driver); she will not place well at Nabisco; she will not win on the lpga this year.
