I'm going to London - where can I play?

The good news is there are a number of top quality courses closer to London.
The bad news is that they are difficult to get to unless you have local help.Taxis are expensive and public transport is unreliable. If you are happy to drive on the wrong side of the road ,understaand what a roundabout(rotary) is and how it works, get an a-z and be brave .Oh and make sure you ask for an automatic when you rent the car.

The very bad news is that they are expensive.

Sunningdale ,Wentworth ,Royal Berkshire are about an hour south west of London and top quality.

Addington ,Royal Wimbledon are closer ,cheaper but difficult to get on.

London Club is South east ,further but one of Jack's best.

Hadley Wood is north and well worth a visit.

The best courses are close to the M25 ring road ,which is at least an hour's drive away. Head up the M40 to Denham and the Buckinghamshire .

Re: I'm going to London - where can I play?

The Addington is not hard to get onto these days - it has a new owner who has put the backs of the old membership right up. Green fee is about ?50 and worth it too. A short taxi ride from East Croydon station. Or if you sweet talk me, I'll pick you up and join you.

Addington Palace is next door and supposed to be quite good.

I can also recommend Foxhills, near Chertsey, just off the M25. Two quality courses there in the same patch as Wentworth etc.

There are plenty of famous courses, with fat green fees, and lots of pretty good value local courses. I reckon there are 100 courses within an hour's drive of my home.
