Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
So are we playing behind a group of seasoned citizens did they have black socks about half way up to the knee or all the way?
Sorry I just could not resist sitting here at work on a slow day behind a desk wishing I was out on the course........today I would not care who was in front of me.

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
I'm curious - what offends you more - their clothes, shoes, swing or drinking? Or is it just their mere presence?
I like the tradition of golf so I don't like when people wear t-shirts on the course. If they're new to golf, I can't fault them for not having golf shoes - why spend the money until you decide it's for you. I don't care about someone's swing - mine isn't that pretty either. Yes, it will probably be a long day, but as everyone here has told me - it's ok to ask to play through. These guys won't know that it's not proper form for me to ask anyway. ![]() |

![]() I am pretty sure we have all been stuck behind a group that we would rather be in front off,we were all beginners once and players probably thought the same about us (maybe still do). On the first tee i would ask the starter if i can cut in front of them, usually thats ok.

Me and my buddies aren't off the first tee yet and you're already! Why do you care what clothes I wear or what my beverage of choice is......and who among us hasn't butchered their first tee shot of the day? Who's really the problem here, the guys who came to have fun and play a game we all love, or the Mr. Grumpy Gills pouting behind the first tee box who will no doubt be a real pleasure for the rest of his foursome to play with today because he's so upset about what just transpired on the first tee? My foursome is going to have a great time today and it looks more to me like the ones doing the complaining are the ones that should've stayed home. I see it this way. As long as the group in front of me keeps up with the group in front of them (and me and my tennis shoe wearing, beer drinkin', funky swinging, friends never have a problem doing that ).......then what's behind me ain't important! ![]() |

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
I don't care what they, or their swings, look like as long as they keep pace!

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
Well if you are playing as a single , by right a foursome does not have to let a single though . Do they allow this kind of described riff raff at Your course ?!?!
![]() As long as the pace of play is moving good I could care less what they are wearing or drinking . |

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
Another good reason to play early. The group you described doesn't usually show up at the course til later in the day. As far as attire, if the course allows it who am I to criticize?

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
OK, I'm going to take the unpopular route here and say that this can be annoying. I don't care about the way they dress, but I believe Johneli is saying that they will play slow and not keep up. The rangers at most courses do nothing about a slow group, and who hasn't followed a group of obnoxious drinkers who have never heard of the custom of letting people play through? Some of them become angry if you even ask about it too.
I find it distracting to listen to drunken yelling throughout the round too - who doesn't? And yes, I have followed groups like this befoe. One group was crashing their carts into each other as they went down the middle of the fairway, and they were way behind as well. It can ruin the entire day.

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
The seasoned gentlemen quote reminds me of a story. Mr. Bogey and I were to play in a select shot tourney at a local course. The tourney came with a practice round so we decided to meet up on Friday around noon to play. I get to the course first and am putting when Mr. B comes up. I tell him to look over at the first tee. Well there were about a dozen older (60+) gentlemen all gathered around getting ready to tee off. We go inside and check in with the pro shop and go outside and see that half of them are gone. As we are waiting the next 6, yes 6 are teeing off. I'm like, "what is going on here?" They all have carts and it looks like the starting lineup for the Indy 500. After they tee off they all hop in their carts and head down the fairway. Mr. B said if it gets too slow we can jump over to the back 9 since they have some back 9 tee boxes next to the front 9. They clear the fairway and we tee off. We're walking so it takes alittle time for us to get down to our ball and when we get there the group ahead have already putted out and are on the next tee. That was the last we saw of that group. Gives a whole new meaning to "ready golf."

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
That's precisely what my I was trying to say with my feeble command of the english language. If you have four guys hittin 75 yard ultra banana balls.....DUH!! Play's gonna be slowed. The clothes and beer were just thrown in to irritate League. But I have to admit, tennis shoes and T-shirts aren't exactly my duds of choice. Now if you were having the "Trailer Park Open" it would be fine.

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
I have a rule that I don't say ANYTHING about the swings or hits of a group in front of me on the first tee. Primarily because I haven't hit a shot yet myself and won't I look silly if I hit a worm-burner.

What difference does it make to you how far, or how often, we hit the ball as long as we keep up with the group in frint of us? You'd have a much better time if you stopped worrying about what we're doing and just tried to keep up. After all, you never know when you've got a group sitting behind you more concerned about you than they are about themselves. ![]() |

Interesting how you say "WE" when referring to whom I'm referring to. Now I have images in my head of "our leader" showing up on the first tee with an Iron Maiden T-shirt, a pair of Keds, and a "Jack Hammer" driver. Oh, and let's not forget the CASE of Old Milwaukee. ![]()

Re: Some People Should Just Stay Home!!
I agree with most of those who've responded so far. As long as they keep up or let me through I couldn't care less what they're doing or wearing. I've actually been very lucky with drunks on the course....off the course is another matter. But they're usually aware that they're there to party and the golf is secondary. I've been happily waved through by many groups like that. They're usually in a very good mood.
