Snail's Pace

Last couple of weeks, both from home and on the road, I have had really, really slow screen changes navigating the site. More than once, I just had to give up. I opened another browser and ran speed test on my connection, I have been uploading at about 1.5 meg and down at 4.0 meg, so I must assume it isn't my connection that is causing the problem. Anyone else having trouble??

I agree. There's no rhyme nor reason to the slowdowns, but they are occurring more and more often. At least a couple of time per day I either can't get to the site or when I do get there the screen changes are interminably slow. Got to be a server problem. Frustrating.

Actually, if I had to guess as to what the rhyme and reason is for the slowdowns you're experiences is a direct result of more bandwidth being used. The more people that visit the forum, the slower it is going to be. As the forum grows, maybe it's time to think about a new host with faster servers?

If any of the powers that be want to chime in, who is GRW hosted with now?

PS: I've not seen any slowness but then again, I'm not on here as much as others so I wouldn't see it.

It goes through periods where there are problems and I believe League has addressed this several times and supposedly the server was to have fixed it but it still appears now and then. Not sure what the problem is but it doesn't seem to remain as long as it did in the past.

I just saw a snail go whizzin by! REALLY slow Sunday 5/4. Login was painfully slow, page changes equally slow. I'm not this patient.

Johneli - are you wireless? I am at home, but not at my office. Yes, I confess I go onto GRW from work. Well, that's not my point - my point is that sometimes it's slower with wireless for me. I just log out of my ISP and start over. That seems to fix things.

Not wireless. I have a Bellsouth connection and my download speed is about 6000mb. Not screamin, but not slow either.

Ahem. 6000mb is pretty darn fast. I reckon you'd be filling a decent sized hard drive in under a minute at that speed.

I hadn't had any problems until recently. It seems that when i first get on here it takes a little bit to load, but once I get into an actual thread, the rest seems to go just fine.

Maybe the new server isn't living up to it's promises.

It appears to me to be a problem with the database server. The host probably has many users accessing the database server, especially during business hours, and it's causing a bottleneck. Either that or the database settings need to be optimized, but I believe that is taken care of by the forum software. From experiences with other hosts in the past, this is the sort of thing that happens when they have the database server on older hardware and/or overload it with users instead of putting in another server to handle the load.
